「美麗的夢仙」為九八拍，原曲名「Beautiful Dreamer」，是一首曲調優美、動聽的美國民歌，廣受學生們的喜愛。

        美國歌謠作曲家佛斯特，創作此曲時，大約是1862年間，當時其隻身在紐約，經濟掘踞生活困頓，在乏人照料之下，日夜思念妻子珍妮，因而寫出如此動人的歌曲。佛斯特(Foster,S.C.1826~1864)是無師自通的作曲家，七歲時學習短笛，十六歲時發表處女作品「戀人啊！打開窗子」，後因婚變，遷居紐約，度過一段孤獨晦暗的時日，1864年逝世，享年三十八歲。
　　

         他創作許多膾炙人口的作品，如:「老黑爵」、「喔！蘇珊娜」、「康城賽馬歌」、「美麗的夢仙」、「馬撒永眠黃泉下」、「老鄉親」、「金髮的珍妮」、「肯達基老家鄉」等。無一不是大家耳熟能詳的曲調，而每一個作品的背後都有一個鮮為人知的故事，每一個作品都是老少咸宜、永垂不朽的名作，堪稱美國的偉大作曲家之一。
