This is part of my ice-breaking speech in Toastmasters Club
My hobbies are reading, traveling, chatting, and day dreaming.
I have worked as a leader of study groups to Boston, London, and Vancouver during summer vacation. The study group usually has one month of English class and 8 days of sightseeing. I had wonderful time in the above cities. The foreign city I like best is Vancouver because a Greek man near my host family often said to me “ Alice, you are beautiful. I like you very much.” every morning and evening. How touched I was! Besides, the bus drivers in Vancouver were friendly. When getting lost, we often jumped on a bus to ask the driver how to get to our destination. He always showed us the way friendly. The pace there was easy and slow. Sometimes the bus driver stopped at a store to get a coke or cigarettes, leaving the passengers waiting on the bus. Nobody complained about that. Life in Vancouver was relaxing.
I was an abused girl before I went to college. Luckily, my father’s love comforts me all my life.
I fell in love at the age of twenty. My husband is my first and only lover. He saved me from hell to haven. Before meeting him, I was like a Cinderella. But he treats me as if I were a queen. He never blames me even I do something wrong. I often spend a lot of money, and escape from home for many weeks to travel abroad. He never stops me, either. During the first twenty years of our marriage, we worked for the family. Here is a song we like to sing: Those were the days, my friend, that we thought never end .We sing and dance forever and a day. We live the life we choose. We fight and never lose for we were young and sure to have our way. La-la-la-la-la, ------.What a happy time we had!
Unfortunately, sweet time never lasts long. My husband got a bad stroke a few years ago. He became handicapped. Now I have to take care my poor mother and my father who has been sick in bed for twelve years. But life has to go on. I would keep looking for joy in life. ETC is a joy for me.
I have two sons. They always help me take care of our family and get through the hard time. I am proud of my good boys.
Although there are tears, I still have a lot of joy in my life.
